Managed Services Software: SaaS or On Premises?
No doubt, MSPs have a lengthy list of remote monitoring and management software from which to choose. Plus, many managed services platforms are now available on premises or as a SaaS (software as a service) configuration. Not sure which path to choose? Join us May 5 at 2:00 p.m. eastern for our next MSPmentor Live webcast: SaaS vs. On Premises MSP Software. Here’s what we’ll cover.
First, a bit of background: We’re shaking up the format a bit: The webcast will be a 40-minute fireside chat — even more interactive, featuring rapid-fire questions from attendees throughout the discussion.
We realize no two MSP businesses are exactly alike…
- But are there certain business characteristics of MSPs that embrace SaaS-centric tools?
- And are there different business characteristics of MSPs that continue to embrace on-premises RMM (remote monitoring and management) options?
We’ll cover both of those questions, and we’ll also explore whether SaaS-centric options can truly match the power and performance of on-premises options.
Our confirmed guest speakers include Dave Durkee, CEO of ENKI — a managed services provider that also has deep cloud expertise. Also, Nimsoft VP and GM Phil Laforge will be on hand to provide deeper insights from SaaS- and on-premises partners. (Nimsoft is sponsoring the webcast).
I look forward to your questions during this MSPmentor Live: Fireside Chat webcast.
This looks great. Really hope I can make this one.
As I’m sure you already know we fall solidly on the SaaS side of this. I just can’t see how we could possibly provide hosting on our own that is as cost efficient and reliable as Amazon, RackSpace, Google and the other best of breed datacenter folks out there.
All the same I am definitely interested in the perspectives that are out there and like the idea of the Fireside Chat format.

We architected Naverisk from day with multi-tenancy to support both SaaS and On Premise delivery methods (Naverisk-Cloud and Naverisk-Onsite respectively).
Of note we run our Naverisk-Cloud offerings on Amazons EC2 platform.
The trend we see is our smaller partners exploring the RMM automation and Managed Services opportunity preferring to utilize Naverisk-Cloud either directly from us or via an “upstream” partner.
(Naverisk-Onsite is used by some of our partners to offer Naverisk-Cloud to their “downstream” partners).
Our larger more mature (from the Managed Services perspective anyway) partners prefer to run with Naverisk-Onsite.
Typically our larger partners have more critical client engagements and see an element of risk in exposing the integrity of their clients IT systems (for which they are contractually responsible) to a third party.
A point of note is that our Naverisk-Cloud pricing is more expensive than Naverisk-Onsite for larger deployments so this undoubtedly has bearing on the trends we are seeing.
Hope this is of use!

Hey Joe,
Jacob Braun and I did a technical overview/review of Naverisk on my blog this week. As Jon states, they have a Cloud solution and a On-Site solutions. Personally, I believe that Naverisk will make a substantial impact for those MSPs who are renting an RMM tool or those about to make the transition.
All the best,
Stu
