Managed Services in Detroit: Built to Last?

As Detroit’s Big 3 automakers struggle to survive, a local managed service provider is driving its business forward. Yes, MSPs can flourish even in terrible local economies.

A case in point: Madison Heights, Mich.-based PMV Technologies‘ managed services revenue is up 92% compared to 2007, according to CEO Scott Goemmel.

“We were just awarded the Oakland County Emerging Sector recipient in Q4 — a key list of growing firms by one of the largest counties in the US,” says Goemmel. “We began aggressively pursuing the MSP business model in early 2006, in what seemed to be the height of recessionary times in Southeast, Mich.

Adds Goemmel in an email to me:

“Our focus has been and continues to be providing true enterprise-class IT leadership, planning, and support to successful small and medium businesses in this region.  Our focus has been on industry segments that have significant reliance on technology and represent growth in our economy.  With particular focus in business services, segments of healthcare, and small financial services firms, we have driven consistent MSP growth.”

PMV Technologies was ranked No. 15 in our 2007-2008 MSPmentor 100 list. We’ll reveal the next edition of that list in February 2009. Deadline to participate in the MSPmentor 100 survey is December 18.

In the meantime, I plan to speak with Goemmel a bit more about how he brands and evangelizes PMV Technologies’ business.
