Dell Touts Robustness of Precision Mobile Workstation Line

Like Lenovo before it, Dell is making sure the PC isn’t dead yet. The company has released a line of robust workstations that reportedly can handle the heaviest of processing tasks, providing “uncompromised” performance and scalability. Read on for the details on the new machines …

Dell’s new systems are “specifically designed for professionals who need raw horsepower,” according to the company. The Dell Precision M4600 and M6600 come in 15.6- and 17.3-inch versions (respectively), complete with Intel Core i7 CPU and DDR3 at 1600 MHz. RAM can be maxed out to 32GB, with RAID 0/1 options available for up to 750GB. The systems come with options for solid state drives, and Nvidia Quadro 5010M mobile graphic cards with 4GB of GPU RAM. AMD graphics card options are also available. Both systems come with a magnesium alloy chassis for durability, and a slew of other little goodies related to power-saving and performance boosting.

The Dell Precision R5500 Rack Workstation comes equipped with Intel’s latest Xeon processors, offers expansion ports for up to 192GB of RAM and supports full-height and full-length PCIe x16 cards. Graphic card options by Nvidia are available, along with PC-over-IP hardware based virtualization technology for delivering fast zero-client PCs with VMware View. The R5500 comes with a bevy of ISV certifications, most notable being Autodesk.

The Precision M4600 carries a price tag starting at $1,678 and the M6600 starts at $2,158. The R5500 starts at $2,551. All of the devices are slated to available in May. For VARs with SMB customers looking to expand and create a more robust network or content creation specialists who need a machine that can handle high-processing jobs, these machines just may fit the bill.
