CompTIA, MSP Services Network Launch Regional Events

MSP Services Network (MSPSN), an Omaha-based Master MSP that also promotes industry collaboration, is partnering with CompTIA to develop content for three regional managed services workshops. The effort emphasizes business and financial education rather than technology talk. Here’s a look at the MSPSN-CompTIA relationship, plus a broader look at conferences and educational efforts across the managed services industry.

You can find details about the CompTIA / MSPSN regional events here. The educational sessions, scheduled Chicago (Oct. 14), New York (Nov. 11) and Washington, D.C. (Dec. 9) are limited to 36 attendees.  According to the event description, attendees will gain:

  • A big-picture understanding of your business and how the different areas of the business are interconnected

  • A solid understanding of financial statements, the importance of cash flow, the difference between cash flow and profit, fixed and variable costs, and the opportunities and threats of a changing marketplace

  • A visual tool for understanding all of these items in an IT-specific context

CompTIA Continues to Open Up

The MSPSN relationship is the latest sign of CompTIA opening up and working more closely with partners on content and education — particularly in the managed services market.

The trend surfaced at CompTIA Breakaway in Las Vegas earlier this month; the conference attracted more than 1,000 channel attendees, a range of media, and educational experts like Erick Simpson from MSP University.

Looking ahead, MSP Partners is involved with CompTIA’s Managed IT Services Summit, scheduled for Oct. 7-9 in Southern California. (MSPmentor also will be attending that event.)

Critical Mass of Options

For VARs, aspiring MSPs and established managed service providers, there’s no shortage of business- and technology-oriented conferences from which to choose. In addition to CompTIA’s efforts, upcoming MSP-oriented events include:

Plus, there is a range of MSP-oriented events scheduled for Europe and Australia — reinforcing the fact that managed services and the recurring revenue model are now global discussions.

Still, I must concede: As the managed services market starts to mature, I wonder if the managed services industry will be able to support so many different events in 2010.
