CompTIA Explores Managed Services Education
During CompTIA’s Managed Services Summit in Miami, Fla., the non-profit organization is listening closely to attendees and evaluating new programs to assist VARs with the transition to managed services.
More than 80 managed service providers, VARs and channel leaders are attending this week’s event. Roughly 25 of the attendees are expected to gather for an extensive brainstorming session the morning of October 22. CompTIA hopes to identify key educational needs in such areas as managed services sales, marketing, accounting, finance and technology foundations.
In some ways, CompTIA could wind up competing against the MSPAlliance for mind share in the managed services industry. While CompTIA is a non-profit organization that positions itself as “the voice for the world’s IT industry,” the MSPAlliance positions itself as a “professional association with nearly 7,000 members.”
Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO of CompTIA, says the organization will increasingly serve as an aggregator of information — from managed services to green IT to security — for its members. Thibodeaux, a former senior VP at the Consumer Electronics Association, joined CompTIA in July 2008.
