Cloud Sherpas is making a big investment in a new global cloud advisory practice that the company stated will be run independently from its other technology business units. The company has committed $10 million to its new business unit, which is meant to help establish a multicontinent independent consulting organization that helps large enterprises plan for migration to the cloud.
According to Cloud Sherpas, its consultants have so far managed more than 5,000 enterprise cloud implementations on three continents over the last seven years, but the company seems to have grander plans. The Cloud Advisory practice will initially be staffed by approximately two dozen consultants in North America, Europe and Australia, with the new busines unit being run by vice president Matthew Johnson.
"Cloud has fundamentally changed the landscape of technology and business,” said Johnson, vice president of Cloud Sherpas Global Cloud Advisory, in a prepared statement. "Moving your organization to the cloud is no longer a question of if or even when. Today, the focus is on how you'll do it. Transitioning to the cloud may seem daunting, but through proper evaluation and strategy, a clear path is possible. We're excited to formalize our approach to helping clients make that move."
The Cloud Advisory practice is officially formed, but it hasn't quite kicked off its business practices yet. Cloud Sherpas plans to officially launch the new business unit April 16 at a customer event in Atlanta.
"Cloud Sherpas is focused on advancing its position as the leading resource for planning global enterprise cloud migrations and delivering world-class technology services," said David Northington, CEO of Cloud Sherpas, in a prepared statement.
Cloud Sherpas is building the new business practice in part based on research that indicates the enterprise market will grow considerably. According to industry research firm IDC, enterprise spending on cloud by 2017 will top $235.1 billion.
