For several months, MSPmentor has been watching for the official launch of ChannelCloud — a platform allegedly built “by the channel for the channel.” It looks like ChannelCloud will finally provide some deeper information on May 14. Here are some preliminary details.

A teaser for ChannelCloud says it is:

“A comprehensive cloud platform which automates the provisioning of SAAS, virtual servers. and complete cloud solutions while managing the full lifecycle of the client including sales, deployment, support and billing. It is the only platform designed by a channel member for the channel member.”

MSPmentor is careful not to hype the cloud; we realize numerous companies are slapping “cloud” labels on their existing services, simply for marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) purposes. But ChannelCloud caught our attention because it was designed by Pointivity, a San Diego solutions provider that has a solid reputation among many peer MSPs.

It sounds like CEO Kent Erickson will provide some deeper ChannelCloud info during a May 14 webcast. I’m curious to learn how ChannelCloud differs from SaaS-enablement platforms like Parallels, and master MSP efforts like Ingram Micro Seismic. Erickson seems to be indicating that ChannelCloud can integrate with existing MSP-oriented dashboards and tools. We’ll be watching to see if ChannelCloud truly lets MSPs differentiate online.

On a side note, Erickson is openly promoting the fact that ChannelCloud is built atop Hewlett-Packard infrastructure. During last week’s HP Americas Partner Conference in Las Vegas, HP barely mentioned cloud- and MSP-centric opportunities to partners. But ChannelCloud’s standardization atop HP shows that the hardware giant has a following within emerging cloud businesses.
