AT&T Partner Exchange: Where Telecom Meets IT
Back in the early 1990s, those of us who were in the telecom resale industry saw the future in IP, bringing together telecommunications and traditional IT networking, and realized the end was nigh for traditional telecom. It may have been slower in coming than we thought, but 20-or-so years later our realization has come true.

Case in point: The VAR Guy is making its first-ever appearance at AT&T Partner Exchange conference this week in Dallas. It’s a no-brainer, really: we’ve been talking telecom for a while now, and it’s become a major focus on our site (as well as our sister sites, MSPmentor and Talkin’ Cloud). Heck, we’ve even got a Telco Hub that includes all the news you need about carriers, programs and technology related to or focusing on telecom.
Our appearance at Partner Exchange underscores messaging from CompTIA that the convergence of IT and telecom is one of the bright spots of opportunity for channel partners, not to mention an increase in telecom-focused companies joining in on the conversation at The VAR Guy. It’s official: Convergence is hot. But not only that, it’s fast becoming a mandatory skill, as more companies look to their channel partners to provide support for both IT and telecom (it all goes through the same pipe, right?).
Over the next day or so I’ll be speaking with AT&T execs at the event as well as a few solution providers, all of whom will be able to deliver their unique perspective on the market opportunity. So stay tuned—you never know what you might hear.
