SolarWinds Updates Database Performance Management Tool
SolarWinds (SWI) today launched a version of its database performance management tool that includes resource metric baselining and alerting to help database administrators (DBAs) identify database resource issues.
The Austin, Texas-based IT management software provider said its new release, Database Performance Analyzer (DPA) 9.0, provides DBAs with “unique visibility across the application stack, including database, server, virtualization and now storage resources to identify application performance bottlenecks and improve [the] end-user experience.”
“Managed service providers (MSPs) that manage custom applications and also those who provide managed services for applications and databases can use DPA to make these applications work better, faster and more reliably,” Gerardo Dada, SolarWinds’ vice president of product marketing, told MSPmentor. “By proactively looking at performance, they give their customers not only peace of mind in terms of meeting user experience expectations, but also the opportunity to save money on hardware investments by extracting maximum performance from existing investments.”
SolarWinds said DPA 9.0 is designed to help DBAs answer the question, “Is the app issue in the database?”
The IT management software provider noted DPA 9.0’s resource metric baselining and alerting can help DBAs identify database resource issues, drill deeper to see if a problem originated in the database and, if so, how to resolve it.
DPA 9.0 also provides storage input/output (I/O) analysis, which allows DBAs to see the impact of storage on a database’s workload.
“Now with SolarWinds DPA 9.0, DBAs have insight both into the performance of databases and how they work with other components that support an app,” Dada said in a prepared statement. “In this way, DBAs essentially become the performance gurus of an IT department, offering a single truth that aligns teams behind facts and empowers them to take action.”
How does DPA 9.0 work?
DPA 9.0 can be used to monitor thousands of database issues, according to SolarWinds.
It is based on a non-intrusive agentless architecture and allows MSPs to continuously monitor DB2, Oracle (ORCL), SQL Server and Sybase databases on cloud, physical and VMware (VMW) servers.
Dada added the new version of DPA can help DBAs better understand how their apps are performing in production environments.
“DPA 9.0 empowers DBAs to become the performance gurus of their IT teams by giving them visibility across multiple dimensions to better understand how applications are performing in production environments and what exactly the bottlenecks or problems are that the team needs to focus its efforts on,” he said.
