Remote monitoring and management (RMM) software provider Continuum has launched a new version of R1Soft‘s cloud-based backup solution.

The new release, Server Backup Manager (SBM) 5.8, includes Amazon Glacier cloud archive storage service support for offsite storage of Disk Safe replicas.

SBM 5.8 also represents Continuum’s first cloud-based backup software release since it acquired R1Soft earlier this month.

Continuum CEO Michael George told MSPmentor he believes the R1Soft acquisition will allow his company to better support its managed service provider (MSP) partners.

“R1Soft is built primarily for hosting providers that run their own cloud, in addition to commercial enterprises backing up their own data centers,” he said. “Over the past several months, we’ve heard from many Continuum partners that they were looking for a cloud-based backup solution. We researched the category, and R1Soft was illuminated as the market leader in a number of areas we deemed important. And because we felt this was a terrific addition to our product portfolio and team, we actively pursued and bought R1Soft Server Backup Manager.”

What does SBM 5.8 offer Continuum partners?

Other SBM 5.8 features include:

  • Application programming interface (API) enhancements

  • File system bare-metal recovery support

  • UEFI/GPT support/backup and bare-metal restore (BMR) UEFI/GPT partitions

More than 2,500 cloud infrastructure providers currently leverage R1Soft SBM to protect more than 300,000 servers worldwide.

“We believe that the R1Soft team has created something truly special with its solution for the data protection needs of service providers and data centers,” George said. “We look forward to investing in both the product and team to ensure R1Soft SBM remains the market-leading solution.”

Dee Zepf, Continuum’s vice president of products and technical services, added that her company is exploring various R1Soft SBM options so it can help partners extend and enhance their portfolios.

“We will continue to deliver on the roadmap for R1Soft products and add deeper support for virtualization and the cloud,” she said. “For Continuum partners, we will continue to invest in the cloud and look to add more robust backup capabilities to our line of cloud products.”
