Paessler Debuts New Network Monitoring Features, Adds iOS 7 Support
The software update includes the following new features: performance improvements for VMware (VMW) sensors; a new high-performance SNMP trap receiver sensor; an improved Syslog receiver sensor; and an integrated ticket system.
But what do these new VMware sensor features mean for IT? Paesslar's recent performance improvements supplement VMware’s latest host software ESXi (version 5.5) by allowing IT to update its VMware environment. These sensor enhancements enable IT to monitor more servers and more items on ESXi, without adding more hardware.
The company's new ticketing system provides administrators with a way to define a workflow for network issues identified by PRTG, while also managing other tasks within the administrator team.
The update offers two new SNMP sensors, Trap Receiver Sensor and a Syslog Receiver Sensor. Paessler founder and CEO Dirk Paessler said in a prepared statement that “one-trick-pony software products" are now obsolete.
"The new sensors will enable PRTG users to keep an eye on their syslog messages and SNMP traps more effectively and more systematically, thus allowing a deeper understanding of the networks," he said, adding that these additions will help administrators save money on add-ons required by competitor products.
The company's latest version of its free companion app, iPRTG, offers users with a refreshed layout, new colors and an improved rotation behavior for iPad, while also supporting iOS 7.
