LogMeIn Rescue Meets Apple iPad in the Workplace

LogMeIn Inc. is taking yet another step to further support Apple iPad tablet computers in the workplace. Within the next day or so, MSPMentor hears, LogMeIn is expected to introduce a new, free LogMeIn Rescue release designed to help MSPs administrate an ever-growing fleet of Apple iPad tablet computers in the workplace. Here’s the scoop.

As we’ve noted previously, LogMeIn already  offers one of the most popular business applications on the iPad. While LogMeIn’s product line is perhaps best known for its remote desktop capabilities, the initial iPad functionality in LogMeIn Rescue‘s mobile add-on is limited to text-based chat support and “capabilities designed to ease common issues with email and calendar configuration,” according to a draft press release MSPmentor previewed.

LogMeIn Rescue already supports other mobile platforms, including Symbian, BlackBerry, Microsoft Windows Mobile, and the Apple iPhone. But LogMeIn says the addition of iPad support speaks to their vision for remote administration for all “smart” devices.

“As more and more types of internet-enabled devices enter the market, IT policies, skills and tools will have to evolve accordingly,” said Lee Weiner, director of support products at LogMeIn, in a prepared statement.

LogMeIn Rescue for Apple iPad reinforces the iPad’s continued growth in the workplace — though new competition from Cisco Systems’ Cius (a tablet based on Google Android) is expected to arrive by 2011…
