Honeywell Bolsters Remote Management of Mobile Devices

The mobile device management (MDM) trend continues to gain momentum. The latest example: :Honeywell International has released two new applications to improve mobility for customers, resellers and other partners. The offerings are called Microsoft Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 and Remote Mastermind. Here’s some background on each development.

Microsoft Windows Embedded Handheld 6.5 is compatible with Honeywell’s Dolphin 6100 and Dolphin 6500 mobile computers. The handheld platform targets retail, supply chain and light-industrial businesses. They can all now use this single platform to develop their own applications. Honeywell says the most important aspect of version 6.5 is its improved connectivity options that allow businesses to track “business critical information in real-time.”

Remote Mastermind is a monitoring software and security application for MSPs, SMBs and larger enterprise companies. Originally released in January 2009, Remote Mastermind has gone through numerous face lifts since then, including the latest one that lets IT professionals remotely diagnose and update their Windows CE and Windows Mobile devices from a central location. Honeywell customers can expect further improvements to Remote Mastermind in the near future, according to Honeywell Vice President of Worldwide Marketing John Waldron:

“With Remote MasterMind for Mobility, Honeywell customers can now break free from manual device management, including time-consuming site visits and device repairs, without compromising on accuracy. Our customers can also expect to see further enhancements to the remote device management experience over the next few months as we introduce a series of new productivity tools, as well as the ability to manage various types of devices across other network devices and operating systems.”

The two improvements were made as part of Honeywell’s larger commitment to expand its mobility portfolio and add flexibility to the Honeywell Partner Program. Coincidentally, Honeywell’s latest innovations fall in line with Kevin Kelly’s six emerging technology trends for MSP’s.
