GFI Software is rolling out a new social community that puts crowdsourcing to work to solving IT problems.  The company today announced that its new interactive FixIT Scripts platform for managed services providers (MSPs) connects those looking to source scripts with those who can provide them to solve a specific IT problem. Here are the details.

The free, unlimited platform builds on the automated and customized scripts that GFI MAX RemoteManagement already has in place.  These scripts can be accessed at www.FixITScripts.com. The site offers a search tool to help MSPs find what they are looking for. If no solution exists, MSPs can then describe the problem and invite the community to respond by posting scripts that address it.

Voting and Gamification

Scripts that have been posted are available to all users and can be rated by usefulness, completeness and quality. Users can also suggest better ways to solve the original problem, or they can suggest edits or improvements to the suggested script.

The best scripts, as rated by users, get the best positioning in the community. To encourage participation, the site offers increased peer reputation, badges and prizes.

GFI MAX RemoteManagement supports eight popular scripting languages, which the company says gives IT professionals the flexibility they need to script, execute and track custom maintenance tasks. Languages supported include PowerShell, VBScript, JavaScript, Python, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Batch and Command.

In addition, GFI has unveiled a proprietary FixIT Scripts language and tool that automatically runs any fixes in GFI’s proprietary script language.

“When combined with the scripting functionality present in the GFI MAX RemoteManagement platform, FixIT Scripts empowers managed services providers to more easily and quickly meet the needs of their customers without needing to reinvent the wheel,” said Alistair Forbes, general manager of the GFI MAX business unit at GFI Software.

The site is currently in an initial public beta stage.
