Focus on IT Security: LabTech Software
How does Tampa, Florida-based remote monitoring and management (RMM) platform provider LabTech Software help managed service providers (MSPs) keep their customers secure?
LabTech Software gives managed service providers choices by integrating with dozens of top antivirus and security software vendors. Those vendors include Enjoy Safer Technology (ESET), HitMan Pro, Vipre and Webroot, and LabTech MSPs can view security information from those vendors directly from their RMM dashboards.
LabTech’s Marketing Director John Timko said real-time stats are available at a glance, making it easier for MSPs to assess vulnerabilities and status across all of their customers’ environments.
“Instead of restricting our partners to a single, limited antivirus offering, we closely integrate with a diverse number of vendors and have out-of-the-box monitoring available for more than 100 antivirus products in all,” Timko said. Plus, out of the box, LabTech Software’s RMM platform provides backup, database encryption and patch management, Timko said.
Digging down deeper, here’s an overview of what else MSPs should know about LabTech Software’s IT security play.
1. LabTech Software ensures that MSPs are covered on the following security needs:
- Antivirus and anti-malware
- Email protection
- Password management
- Patch management
“All sensitive registry data, internal LabTech data and redirector (VNC and tunnel) data is encrypted with Triple DES encryption before being transmitted from the agent machine to a partner’s LabTech server,” Timko added. “Nightly backups of the LabTech database are stored locally and can be easily moved offsite. If required, the LabTech server can be completely restored with just one of these backup files.”
2. LabTech Software leverages IT security integrations to provide MSPs with access to innovative new security solutions
Malware and virus infections are ongoing concerns for MSPs, Timko noted, and LabTech Software leverages integrations with multiple IT security vendors to provide MSPs with greater flexibility.
For example, LabTech Software recently unveiled an integration with Thycotic‘s Secret Server software that enables IT professionals to reference shared credentials from a single information source on the LabTech platform.
3. LabTech Software continues to update its security offerings for a changing environment
For instance, Timko said LabTech Software’s Intel vPro integration plug-in provides automated vPro asset device discovery and provisioning. Intel’s vPro keyboard-video-mouse (KVM) technology runs beneath the operating system at the hardware layer to give MSPs remote management and connectivity even if the operating system is not operational or if a PC is shutdown.
“This integration allows access to a system in ways never before available remotely,” Timko said. “We can instantly enable vPro [and] access the BIOS, power settings and hardware, even when the OS is not functional because it has been compromised by a virus or the system is shut down.”
LabTech Software also leverages internal teams that “help identify potential, current and future risks” to ensure MSP partners are fully supported in the wake of new threats.
“We are constantly innovating and expanding our products and features while listening to the pulse of the industry,” Timko said. “We are committed to not only innovate our software to help solve today’s security concerns but also look ahead at what potential risks may be tomorrow’s reality.”
