Managed IT services platform provider Continuum has acquired R1Soft, a Houston company that offers backup software and data protection for managed service providers (MSPs), cloud services providers (CSPs) and hosting service providers.

Continuum CEO Michael George said the acquisition represents “an investment in next-generation cloud solutions” and could benefit his company’s MSP partners.

“The R1Soft core technology is an ideal fit for our partners who desire hosted server backup and continuous data protection,” George said in a prepared statement. “We are working to enhance the product by integrating our service and business model to enable MSPs and other IT service providers to easily offer the solution to their customers — profitably.”

Idera‘s R1Soft Server Backup Manager (SBM) is a commercial backup software aimed at web hosting providers, according to Continuum.

This product line protects more than 300,000 servers worldwide and has been deployed by more than 2,500 cloud infrastructure providers.

What does the acquisition mean for Continuum’s MSP partners?

George pointed out the R1Soft acquisition will help his company better serve its MSP partners.

“Over the past several months, we’ve heard from many Continuum partners that they were looking for a cloud-based backup solution,” George told MSPmentor. “We researched the category, and R1Soft was illuminated as the market leader in a number of areas we deemed important. And, because we felt this was a terrific addition to our product portfolio and team, we actively pursued and bought R1Soft Server Backup Manager from Idera.”

He also noted the acquisition provides a valuable market opportunity for his company.

“We firmly believe cloud backup is a market opportunity for Continuum to pursue aggressively,” he said. “We believe that the R1Soft team has created something truly special with its solution for the data protection needs of service providers and data centers.”
