AVG Technologies COO John Giamatteo: Set to exit.

AVG Technologies COO John Giamatteo intends to resign from the security and MSP software provider — which acquired Level Platforms this year. Giamatteo's pending exit was disclosed in an SEC filing today. It sounds like Giamatteo has landed a new opportunity elsewhere.

The SEC filing stated:

"AVG Technologies N.V. (NYSE: AVG) announced that it has received notice from John Giamatteo of his intention to resign as Chief Operating Officer of AVG and as a managing director of AVG’s management board to pursue other opportunities. The end date of his employment is to be determined."

On the one hand, executives come and go. And AVG has been in growth mode — so perhaps there's no cause for alarm here. On the other hand, I’m curious when a company shares news about a business change in the afternoon before an extended holiday weekend. The news is typically timed to soften any potential concerns, since much of the media is gone for the holiday weekend.

Giamatteo exits only a few weeks after AVG acquired Level Platforms and trimmed some staff at the MSP software provider. Some key Level Platforms players, such as Rob Rae, exited for jobs elsewhere. Level Platforms Managed Workplace is now known as AVG Managed Workplace.

As for Giamatteo, it's unclear when he's actually leaving the company and who will potentially succeed him. The SEC filing was quite vague in those areas.
