Industry veteran Matt Solomon announced that Tuesday marked the final chapter in his six-year run at ID Agent/Kaseya. Solomon made the proclamation on his LinkedIn page.

Channel Development

Solomon, who was vice president of business development for Kaseya and a highly visible executive in the MSP community, decided to step down from his post to pursue other channel opportunities. Solomon’s sudden departure leaves a void at Kaseya and its ID Agent security group. Solomon had focused on channel development and building relationships with MSPs and channel partners. He joined ID Agent as the cybersecurity company’s first employee. It grew to approximately 50 employees before its sale to Kaseya.

During the pandemic, Solomon played a visible role. He connected MSPs from the Kaseya and ID Agent network along with other tech suppliers. He also coordinated a series of peer-led events that helped partners share best practices and identify new market opportunities. During those events, Solomon also had the opportunity to interview some pretty famous guests. These included basketball-great turned entrepreneur Magic Johnson, and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.

Solomon told Channel Futures he plans to focus on building a channel consulting business in the short term. Eventually, he would like to join a startup or tech supplier focused on growing its MSP and channel business. His experience at ID Agent helping to build the business and working in a startup culture was perhaps the most enjoyable role of his career, which has spanned working as a sales director focused on the public sector and as a senior account executive for a media company.

Love from Partners

“I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to get to know Matt and work with him during his time at Kaseya,” said Nancy Sabino, CEO and co-founder, SabinoCompTech. “He has saved my day, made it a point to include me and make me feel accepted and welcome, has made me laugh with the hot seat (he knows what I’m talking about …) and so much more. That’s the kind of guy that Matt is. He makes this industry a better place by just being who he is and with what he brings to the table. I am sad he’s leaving Kaseya, but I’m glad that he’s going to stick around. He certainly has carved out a place of his own that no one else can fill.”

“I had the pleasure of getting to know [ID Agent founder and CEO] Kevin [Lancaster] in the early days, and he is really an intelligent person,” said Joe Ussia, CEO and president, Infinite IT Solutions. “The tag-team between Matt and Kevin made ID Agent what it was until Kaseya was smart enough to acquire the company. Kaseya has come a long way over the past couple of years, convincing me that it was a good idea for Infinite IT to partner with them.

“Today, Infinite IT relies on the partnership with Kaseya to deliver enormous value to our customers. A lot of it is because of the original relationship built with IDAgent, because of Matt Solomon. There are only two people in our industry that I consider to be real, professional and personable, and Matt is one of them (the other is my fellow Canadian Rob Rae). Whatever Matt moves onto, I know he will go beyond expectations. He truly is a remarkable professional, and an even sincere human being.”

Looking Ahead

Solomon says he’s ready to jump into his consulting business.

“This is only the final chapter in this book,” says Solomon. “I’m not leaving the MSP community. In the short term, I’m spinning up my own consulting business for MSPs and vendors in the channel and focusing on continuing to try and grow as a thought leader in the space. I’m leaving my future in the channel very open and want to see what life presents me next.”
