Red Hat JBoss Dials Apple iPhone: Yes, There's An App for That

Chariot Solutions, a Red Hat channel partner and Catalyst Program member, has developed an iPhone application to monitor JBoss application server performance. This is the latest example of an open source solutions provider blending IT consulting and ISV (independent software vendor) efforts. Here's the scoop from The VAR Guy.

Red Hat JBoss Dials Apple iPhone: Yes, There's An App for That

Based in Fort Washington, Pa., Chariot specializes in Java and open source technologies — with an emphasis on application development and systems integration. Charriot developed the iPhone app during the recent Red Hat Summit and JBoss World (Chicago, Sept. 1-4).

According to an official statement from the company:

“Chariot’s iPhone app will allow enterprises using JBoss Enterprise Middleware to directly communicate with their application server (or multiple servers) on-demand. IT directors will be able to remotely verify the operational status of their servers and view current loads. Should an issue arise, management will have instant access to system analytics to interpret and react.”

Sure, there are iPhone applications for just about everything these days. But Chariot and dozens of additional systems integrators spent Red Hat Summit and JBoss World describing some major market transitions. Attendees from as far away as Australia attended the event to learn how to migrate from proprietary middleware to JBoss.

Chariot’s work will potentially accelerate those efforts. The company joined Red Hat’s new Catalyst Program, which attempts to get channel partners and ISVs working more closely together on turn-key solutions.

Looking ahead, Chariot plans to work with a “select group of IT executives and systems administrators to participate in a beta test of the iPhone app.” No word (yet) on when the final application will ship.
