Red Hat (RHT) has teamed with CommVault (CVLT), Hewlett-Packard (HPQ), Intel (INTC) and Supermicro to develop reference architectures for data backup, content clouds, Big Data storage and other industry-specific storage solutions intended to handle large amounts of unstructured data.

The idea is to enable customers to readily deploy a storage solution that makes use of existing storage functionality yet accommodates future features. The reference architectures in question are based on Red Hat’s open software-defined storage platform.

“As Red Hat continues to expand its storage partner ecosystem, we are providing more choices and proven interoperability through solution blueprints for Red Hat Storage software-defined storage,” said Scott Clinton, Red Hat Storage Product Management senior director. “The selection of Red Hat Storage by leading IT providers affirms open, software based storage is a fundamental core component to their enterprise infrastructure solutions, and we look forward to continuing to broaden our partner ecosystem in the future.”

Here’s a list of the Red Hat collaboration storage solutions:

Archive and backup: Enterprise data management solution built on CommVault’s Simpana OnePass feature and Red Hat Storage that can be deploy with on-premise hardware or in the cloud. Provides a converged process for backup, archive and reporting with an open software-defined storage platform.

Big Data storage: HP and Red Hat have designed a purpose-built scale-out storage solution to meet the data center challenges to save space, energy and time when deploying large data workloads. The solution consists of Red Hat Storage open software-defined storage platform and HP ProLiant SL4500 servers.

Content cloud storage: Red Hat and Intel have created a content cloud storage reference design using Intel Xeon processor-based storage servers and Red Hat’s software-defined storage platform to speed organizations’ ability to rapidly implement content clouds.

Industry-specific storage solutions: Red Hat and Supermicro have collaborated to develop several industry-specific solution blueprints designed to maximize the value of enterprise storage investments.
