It was like sipping Pepsi in Coca Cola’s headquarters. Instead of throwing The VAR Guy out of their offices, the Lenovo folks described why the ThinkPad X300 is a better option than Apple’s MacBook Air. So, who won this debate? Take a look.

Sure, the X300 is impressive. Quite a few of The VAR Guy’s peers say the notebook offers the most power and flexibility they’ve ever seen in such a small package. And Lenovo drove home its points by showing The VAR Guy the following video:

The video certainly drives home the X300’s advantage points. Overall, the X300 truly is impressive. But here’s the problem. The VAR Guy has grown allergic to Windows. He breaks out in hives when he sees Windows Vista. And he isn’t ready to downgrade to Windows XP. Our resident blogger really has grown biased in recent months, living on Mac OS X by day and dabbling in Ubuntu Linux by night.

Lenovo has made some strong moves to support Linux — including plans to launch Linux servers this fall. Let’s hope that effort continues on desktop and mobile systems. The vast majority of the world is sticking with Windows. And the X300 is a certified hit from what The VAR Guy hears. But for the ThinkPad X300 to win over The VAR Guy, it’s gonna have to come with Linux.
