Windstream Wholesale has added 400,000 Ethernet service locations via its fixed wireless service.

The expansion will increase its wholesale Ethernet services footprint to customers in more than 50 major metro markets, complementing and operating in parallel with Windstream’s 150,000-mile core fiber footprint, the company said.

The new service offer adds prequalified buildings that serve more than 3 million businesses with Windstream OnNet assets by providing primary access or redundant access solutions. More markets and locations will be added during 2019.

In February, Windstream filed for bankruptcy protection after losing its court battle with Aurelius Capital Management, a Windstream bondholder, and earlier this month its stock was delisted from Nasdaq.

“Our fixed wireless is unique in the industry as no other service provider can deliver Windstream Wholesale’s same breadth and depth of coverage with this technology,” said Joe Scattareggia, Windstream Wholesale’s executive vice president. “Customers experience faster install times and a more cost-effective alternative to fiber and copper with the same service-level agreements.”

The new fixed wireless service now supports products including Ethernet e-access, dedicated internet Access and MPLS at bandwidth levels to deliver a bit rate over a path-diverse wireless connection at speeds ranging from 3 Mbps to 5 Gbps with four-nines availability.

Organizations seeking business-continuity plans now can combine fiber-optic access and fixed-wireless connectivity. For added convenience, self-service quoting and ordering are available for all access types within the customer portal tool, according to Windstream.

Prospective customers can view the Windstream Wholesale fixed-wireless service areas and more than 400,000 buildings on an interactive network map.
