Verizon to Release Four New Phones
Verizon Wireless took the wraps off four new phones Wednesday it hopes will compete against popular selections such as the iPhone.
The company said the devices will be available in time for the holiday season. They are the Verizon Wireless Juke by Samsung, the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphone, The Venus by LG and The Voyager by LG.
The Voyager may be Verizons answer to the iPhone.
It has a large touch screen but also opens to reveal a full QWERTY keypad. Its features include HTML browser, full V CAST-capabilities and high-speed wireless broadband. IT will have a memory slot that holds up to 8GB.
The Juke, which is exclusive to Verizon Wireless, has a swivel design which can flick open 180 degrees to reveal the keypad, the company said. It also has 2GB of internal storage that complements the phones music player.
Verizon said the 8130 is the first high-speed BlackBerry Pearl it offers, giving customers access to wireless broadband (EV-DO). It has built-in GPS capability and access to VZ Navigator service.
The Venus has two dual-front screens, the lower of which also has touch input with vibration feedback. It has an 8GB of expandable memory.
Verizon did not say how much the phones would cost or an exact release date. The company did say they would be available by Thanksgiving.
