Verizon Enterprise Solutions is preparing to roll out a new cloud backup service designed to support customers using virtualized infrastructures.

It’s part of a partnership with Actifio. The service, available next month in North America – and in Europe and Asia Pacific by fall – uses the copy data virtualization company’s technology platform.

The goal is to enable a unified hybrid-cloud environment where data is “easy to manage, access and protect.” For example, with the new Verizon Premise to Cloud Backup service, data is easier to move back and forth between the customer’s location and Verizon’s cloud-based infrastructure, meaning that applications can be allocated wherever it makes the most sense. The service gives IT pros instant access to data while enhancing data control, adding business value by allowing higher quality apps to be developed faster, the carrier said. Furthermore, it aims to improve resilience and availability by protecting data across the full range of conventional protection use cases; this allows customers to improve internal service-level agreements while reducing cost, risk and complexity.{ad}

“The complexity of legacy infrastructure limits the ability of many enterprises to innovate around their data,” said Dan Jablonski, director of cloud and IT solutions, Verizon Enterprise Solutions. “We chose Actifio’s … copy data virtualization technology to power this new offering because it means we can now offer customers a simple, single solution to protect, move and store data in our cloud. Together with Actifio, we’re helping clients to be more agile so they can deliver better experiences to their own customers.”

This is just the latest development in the budding partnership between the two companies. In February, Verizon said that it would start to help its customers deploy Actifio’s copy data virtualization capabilities for the first time — which worked hand in hand with Verizon’s existing cloud backup service.
