Pivot3, the hyperconverged infrastructure vendor, is taking its Pivot3 Cloud Edition to the public cloud, beginning with Amazon Web Services (AWS). To date, Pivot3 customers have been using its hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) for private clouds.

This latest move will enable customers to simplify, optimize and automate the use of multicloud environments to better address business challenges, the vendor said.

“With this latest release, we’re taking our hyperconverged software platform with its intelligence engine to the public cloud, as part of a multi-phase strategy to simplify how companies are able to operate in a multicloud world. To put it simply, we’re ‘hyperconverging’ the cloud,” Dan Deppen, senior product manager at Pivot3, told us.

Pivot3 Cloud Edition on AWS enables customers to more easily use AWS for backup and disaster recovery by using the intelligence in Pivot3’s policy-based management for data protection. From working with customers and channel partners, the company learned that one of the first ways they take advantage of the cloud is for backup and disaster recovery, which is why Pivot3 turned to AWS first.

Pivot3 Cloud Edition runs in AWS as an Amazon Machine Image and is optimized to orchestrate replication of data from on-premises Pivot3 HCI to AWS. It uses simple data-protection policies and an understanding of business priorities to optimize replication from on-premises to AWS storage so that it is simple to set up, manage and doesn’t impact performance of the applications running on-premises, the company explained.

This latest offering means that Pivot3 channel partners will be able to support a wider range of use cases and help customers build out a strategy for using the public cloud to address the needs of the business.

Deppen says that Pivot3 Cloud Edition is ideal for organizations seeking to simplify, optimize and automate their use of multicloud environments. Up to this point, IT has been unable to take full advantage of the public cloud due to management and cost complexities, and lack of control. By bringing policy-based management and automated resource orchestration to the cloud, customers will be able to unify on-premises and public cloud infrastructures and improve agility from a hybrid and multi-cloud environment, he added.

Expect to see Pivot3 roll out additional capabilities based on its HCI engine this year to support additional ways that customers opt to leverage public clouds.

“Our goal is to help customers leverage public clouds in an intelligent fashion to reduce costs and improve IT agility and services,” Deppen said.
