Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE) has unveiled a new private 5G offering that supports a range of deployment types based on customer need.

Pre-integrated with radio access capabilities from leading vendors, the solution can be deployed as a service with HPE GreenLake. HPE offers unique capabilities for private networking across both 5G and Wi-Fi, enabling new enterprise and industrial applications from edge to cloud.

For sensitive or remote operations, such as military, shipping, or oil and gas, HPE’s solution provides a fully autonomous deployment with the HPE Edgeline EL8000 Converged Edge system. Where low latency is key to supporting critical applications, such as in a hospital, the solution can be distributed in a hybrid cloud.

HPE’s Richard Band

Richard Band is HPE Communications Technology Group’s head of mobile core and 5G. He said while the solution is designed to serve enterprises, HPE’s preferred route to market is via service providers, telcos and SIs.

“The private 5G market is developing quickly including new market entrants, such as hyperscale cloud providers,” he said. “Service providers, telcos and SIs are looking for simple ways to deploy private 5G networks in order to meet growing customer expectations for the connected edge.”

Best of Both Worlds

Although 5G far surpasses Wi-Fi in terms of wide area coverage, Wi-Fi has the edge when it comes to cost-effective, indoor connectivity, HPE said. With private 5G technology from HPE, customers can gain interworking across both private 5G and Wi-Fi.

HPE brings several capabilities that it believes make it unique in the market, Band said. Those include:

  • Speed and flexibility in deployment.A focus on making 5G and Wi-Fi work together, thus giving CSPs, SIs and enterprises a choice of connectivity options to maximize business outcomes.

  • HPE’s continued investment in GreenLake.

  • The solution makes it easy to integrate into the application developer ecosystem to build the full solutions enterprises need.

By deploying private 5G and Wi-Fi on a pay-as-you-use basis with GreenLake, enterprises can scale networks according to demand.
