Hewlett Packard Enterprise Announces New IoT Systems, Networking Services

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has been on the move and aggressively seeking business with new products and services since it officially opened for business on Nov. 1, and its latest target is the Internet of Things (IoT).
This week, the company announced new IoT systems and networking services to help customers collect, process and analyze IoT data. In addition, Aruba, an HPE company, announced the IoT Aruba Sensor, a cloud-based beacon management service for multivendor Wi-Fi networks.
These follow HPE’s announcements of: new services engineered for SMBs and available through its Just Right IT Program; new 3PAR StoreServ Storage services to accelerate the move to all-flash data centers; and a new set of services spanning cloud, software, storage and services built for the Docker ecosystem.
The HPE Edgeline IoT Systems and Aruba sensors are available to the channel and will enable HPE’s partners to “build solutions and practices around the major market of IoT,” Doug Oathout, the company’s vice president of Channel Partner Alliances and OEM Marketing, told Channel Partners. This is a “huge new market opportunity” for HPE and its partners, he said.
“The new solutions today are important elements of our strategy of delivering more connectivity and computing power at ‘the edge,’ and helping customers maximize the value and minimize the risks from IoT at the speed of business,” said Antonio Neri, executive vice president and general manager of HPE’s Enterprise Group.
According to Gartner, some 6.4 billion connected “things” will be in use in 2016, up 30 percent from 2015.
The new Edgeline systems are the result of a joint partnership between HPE and Intel to help deliver services for the IoT market. Available in ruggedized, mobile and rack-mounted versions, the systems have been certified to work with Microsoft Azure IoT Suite and will run Windows 10 IoT for a number of industrial, logistics, transportation, health care, government and retail applications.
The Aruba sensors combine a small Wi-Fi client and BLE radio, which enables organizations to remotely monitor and manage Aruba beacons across existing multivendor Wi-Fi networks from a central location using the Meridian cloud service. The new sensors are designed to allow …
… any company to introduce location-based services, using Aruba beacons and sensors at the edge, and the Meridian cloud service to interface with business and analytics applications.
Independent software vendors, systems integrators, big data, domain experts and service partners will benefit most from the Edgeline systems and Aruba sensors, according to HPE.
The company envisions a “wide range of end-use applicability,” but with Edgeline’s ruggedized design, it sees big opportunities in the industrial, manufacturing, smart infrastructure, and oil and gas industries, among others.
Last month, HP officially split into two separate companies. HPE includes HP’s enterprise hardware, software and services businesses, while HP Inc. includes its PC and printing businesses.
The companies also have separate partner programs: HPE’s Partner Ready and HP Inc.’s Partner First.
