F5 Debuts BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager Virtual Edition

F5 Networks Inc. (FFIV) has announced availability of a free trial version of its new virtual appliance, the BIG-IP Local Traffic Manager (LTM) Virtual Edition (VE). The combination of virtual and physical Application Delivery Controllers (ADCs) is a major milestone in delivering on F5’s vision for dynamic IT infrastructure, the company said.

With the addition of BIG-IP LTM VE to its market-leading family of ADC solutions, F5 extends its architectural approach for application and data delivery to include both physical and virtual appliances. This release gives developers and architects a new, efficient, and effective tool for modeling ADC deployments. The free trial version is downloadable online, reducing both the time and cost of evaluations.

“The Application Delivery Network is the foundation for a flexible architecture, and F5’s advanced ADCs are the enabling solution that allows organizations to deliver services dynamically,” said Erik Giesa, vice president of product management and product marketing at F5. “Now, IT departments can shorten their testing time by simply spinning up a virtual BIG-IP to immediately begin testing on different configurations, iControl and iRules programs, and other variables with confidence that the test results will match live operation of a physical BIG-IP appliance in their production network.”

As part of today’s news, F5 is also announcing the availability of the BIG-IP LTM ‘Essentials Training Class’ as a Web-based training course. This online course is available to anyone at no charge.
