Red Hat (RHT) on Tuesday tapped D. Robert Martin as its new channel chief, a position previously held by channel veteran Roger Egan.

In his new role as vice president of North American Partner Sales, Martin will lead the development and execution of Red Hat’s North America channel strategy and partner sales execution.

He will be responsible for driving sales and developing relationships with North American channel partners, including resellers and distributors, as well as alliance partners including independent software vendors, system integrators, original equipment manufacturers and embedded, cloud, and hosted infrastructure providers.

Martin served as vice president of Global Indirect Channels at VCE, where he was responsible for creating and executing the the company’s global channel sales strategy for the Vblock converged infrastructure platform.

Prior to VCE, Martin held several leadership roles at Cisco Systems (CSCO), including senior director of Worldwide VTG Channel Sales; director of Business Strategy and Operations for the U.S. and Canada Channels; and senior operations director for U.S. Channels.

In addition to bringing Martin to the team, Red Hat also hired John Tzioufas as vice president of North American Emerging Product Sales and Matt Androski as vice president of West Region Sales.

Red Hat Global Channel Sales and Alliances Senior Vice President Mark Enzweiler said in a prepared statement that all three hires “have proven success in the industry.”

“Their passion and enthusiasm for Red Hat and our open source business model, leads me to believe they will fit in perfectly and complement the current momentum our North America team has successfully built with our partners and customers,” he said.

Former Red Hat Roger Egan left the company in January to head channel sales at Docker, an open-source project that allows developers to write portable applications.
