Oracle OPN Specialized Launches Dec. 2
So much for relaxing on Thanksgiving. Oracle Channel Chief Judson Althoff (pictured) and his team are preparing to launch Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) Specialized during a virtual event on Dec. 2. Here are some quick details.
Althoff unveiled the OPN Specialized partner program during Oracle OpenWorld in October 2009. At the time Althoff described the OPN Specialized effort (and some SaaS strategies) in this FastChat video with The VAR Guy:
Fast forward to the present and Oracle says OPN Specialized is set for launch Dec. 2. VARs can submit questions via Twitter (@oraclepartners or #opn) or via email ([email protected]) before or during the virtual event. Oracle says it plans to answer questions throughout the virtual event.
In the meantime, Oracle’s Althoff is talking up the OPN Specialized effort on his own blog.
Similar Moves
Oracle’s march toward specialization is hardly surprising. Similar moves occurred first in the networking market, where Cisco Systems has launched specializations in data center network infrastructure, wireless, unified communications and more.
In theory, specializing allows solutions providers to carve out market niches for themselves. On the flip side, specialized programs allow technology companies to drive their leading-edge partners into emerging product areas.

Is the Oracle event open to non-partners or do already have to be part of the partner program? Thank you for your anticipated reply.
The OPN Specialized Launch is open to anyone. You can register to attend the event here. We hope to see you on December 2nd.
Sandra: The VAR Guy thanks you for the clarification.
