While Google’s blog has a comprehensive overview of Google Instant, the best way to get the idea is to simply go to their homepage and do a search yourself – type in “The VAR” and it suggests TheVarsity.com, but put a space after it and it narrows it down to The VAR Guy, our resident blogger. It even tries to finish your sentence with predictive

It doesn’t sound that major, but it has the potential to be a time-saver, especially when trying to figure out the magic words that return the search result you want. And they’re aiming at making Instant the default search environment for major browsers and mobile devices before 2010 ends.

So why should the channel care? Because of that time-saving element. Search is still Google’s bread and butter, but it’s not hard to imagine the tech titan rolling it out to Google Docs.

And while The VAR Guy has criticized Google for not innovating in SaaS application data search as much as rivals like Zoho have and playing catch-up, this could give them an edge when it comes to cloud productivity — assuming they figure out a way to leverage it.
