We know you ruggedized computer junkies are out there, and whether you're a VAR who needs a rugged mobile, or you're a VAR selling rugged mobiles, GammaTech is a name you might want to familiarize yourself with. GammaTech was kind enough in the past to loan a unit for review, and I was impressed. It looks like the company's newest technology won't disappoint, either.

GammaTech Expands Rugged HD Computing Line

S15C frontWe know you ruggedized computer junkies are out there, and whether you’re a VAR who needs a rugged mobile, or you’re a VAR selling rugged mobiles, GammaTech is a name you might want to familiarize yourself with. GammaTech was kind enough in the past to loan a unit for review, and I was impressed. It looks like the company’s newest technology won’t disappoint, either. Here are the specs on GammaTech’s new military grade notebook, the S15C…

The S15C is designed to take advantage of some of the newest offerings from Intel, so it’s packing a Core i5 or i7 CPU with DDR3, outfitted with an (optional) full-15.6-inch HD display. The whole thing is covered in a magnesium alloy that meets MIL-STD 810G specifications for dropping, shock and spillage.

In my last review, I noted that the DuraBook R13S weighed 9 pounds, but actually felt quite light weight. The DuraBook S15C comes in at 7 pounds and features a special optical drive that will prevent unintentional ejects and protects the disc against vibration. The HDD is also enclosed to be shot resistant. The battery includes special circuits to prevent shorting from external or internal sources.

The R13S was designed for military use in a desert or combat zone and also included a touch screen. The S15C, however, is scaled down and geared toward the everyman who happens to need a computer that can withstand a rougher environment. Construction sites, car repair shops — anywhere general roughness abounds but the need for high-performance and quality display is imperative — are perfect environments for the S15C’s durability.

If you’re intrigued by GammaTech’s DuraBook line, consider checking out the company’s partner program.
