The palpable buzz of CES every January can drown out other news, which could also explain why distribution companies have been quiet as of late. But both Avnet and Ingram Micro have come out of their shells, boosting digital signage technology and data disposal solutions respectively. Want the scoop? The VAR Guy won’t waste your time …
Here’s what Avnet and Ingram Micro are up to:
Avnet: Avnet has built an entirely new subdivision of Avnet Embedded, dubbed Avnet Brilliant Digital Signage Suite Of Services. The new special division is designed to provide custom “end-to-end” digital signage solutions. Avnet promises everything from installation to long-term service level agreements and even installation of SaaS technology for updating digital signs anywhere in the world. The big push for digital signage comes as Avnet cites Intel research indicating by 2015, “… approximately 22 million digital signs will be powered by 10 million media players globally.” The VAR Guy is in agreement — he’s seeing more and more digital signage displays pop up every day. Since Avnet partners weren’t directly referenced, The VAR Guy reached out to Avnet for some clarification and subsequently got some good news: Channel partners can indeed work with Avnet on the Brilliant Digital Signage Suite of Services and provide their customers with all the aforementioned solutions.
Ingram Micro: In a partnership with U.S. Micro, Ingram Micro is now offering channel partners the opportunity to add “data removal” services to their list of offerings. And yes, that works on two levels: Data is securely removed from the device and subsequently disposed of in a way that is environmentally friendly. The move comes primarily as security concerns arise within the healthcare industry and related privacy-conscious sectors. The VAR Guy knows most verticals have strict law-enforced data storage and removal compliance requirements, so having Ingram Micro driving a wide-scale program to educate and encourage proper storage disposal is a good move in our resident blogger’s book. It should also be an easy upsell for any VAR working in those related industries.
Check back next week for another exciting distribution roundup, from yours truly, The VAR Guy.
