IT management software provider ConnectWise is rolling out updates to its “Modes Theory” methodology for MSPs. The methodology aims to help IT service providers align their companies with a successful go-to-market strategy.

Modes Theory features four “modes” — startup, balance builder, value builder and empire builder. Each helps tech service providers determine where they stand on their business journey.

The latest version of the Modes Theory Assessment includes an operational maturity level (OML) component. This provides a more holistic view of a partner business, what it’s trying to achieve and a road map to get there. The Modes Theory Assessment is for SMBs, is free and takes 10-15 minutes to complete. ConnectWise suggests that if a business has multiple owners, each takes the assessment and compares notes to get on the same page.

“The pandemic made it a necessity for businesses to take client relationships deeper, but this has to start with us understanding ourselves. We’ve discovered that partners can better support their clients if they know what they are trying to accomplish,” said Sorensen. “This enables them to proactively plan with clients and provide better service because they’re having those conversations. We see significant value in salespeople understanding the partners they are trying to take care of.”

More at IT Nation Connect

ConnectWise will host an assessment and workshop at IT Nation Connect in November that focuses on leadership. It will feature sessions where business owners can sit down with their teams and consider a collective vision.

Small Business Administration stats show that less than one-half of new businesses survive even five years.

ConnectWise worked with its partners to develop Modes Theory. More than 400 partners have tested it so far. All of the company’s partners now have access to it, but it’s available to non-ConnectWise partners as well.

The company plans to reveal the next stage of Modes early next year. It will feature a client-focused Modes assessment.
