CompTIA Veterans Launch Channel Happy Hour Podcast

Does the world really need another traditional, dry technology podcast? Certainly not. But two CompTIA veterans — call ’em Martin and Kane — are determined to inject some life into the conversation. In fact, the two channel pundits, now busy running companies of their own, are launching a so-called Channel Happy Hour podcast. And yes, The VAR Guy may pull up a seat to the bar. Here’s why.

The VAR Guy first learned about Channel Happy Hour two days ago. The chatter started Saturday morning, when Exigo Group President Brett Martin and MSP Services Network President Gerard Kane dialed our resident blogger’s cell phone number. (How they got the number remains a mystery…)

The VAR Guy rarely picks up calls on the weekend — but this one he had to take, knowing the personalities on the other end of the line.

Sock It To Me

Martin and Kane (no relation to Martin and Rowan, nor Martin and Lewis) launched into the Channel Happy Hour pitch:

“We drink. We talk channel. An open and sometimes irreverent discussion of what’s happening in the IT Channel. Come join us in the bar… Who’s buying?”

Talk about high-concept.

Hmmm… The VAR Guy certainly doesn’t condone drinking on the job. Also, our resident blogger typically says “no” when “pundits” come calling about channel podcast guest appearances. After all, The VAR Guy has his hands full creating content for his own web site.

Still, Martin and Kane are two guys worth talking to. Martin has been in and around the IT channel for decades, recently moving from CompTIA to his own Exigo Group channel consulting business. Somewhat similarly, Kane is a former solutions provider and CompTIA veteran, who recently purchased MSP Services Network — a master managed services provider.

Both Martin and Kane tend to be lively talkers (how’s that for a tactful description of their personalities?). So yes, The VAR Guy has agreed to show up for the first Channel Happy Hour podcast. This could get interesting…
