CompTIA Security Trustmark: Coming of Age
CompTIA, an association serving IT vendors, users and solutions providers, seems to be making progress with a Security Trustmark accreditation program. To wit, a dozen new companies have earned the CompTIA Security Trustmark. Here’s the update.
The Security Trustmark is a validation of sorts; end-customers, IT vendors and solutions providers that earn the TrustMark are basically standing up to say they “follow industry-accepted security best practices.”
Still, launching and promoting a business and IT accreditation isn’t easy. While solutions providers may value various accreditations, they aren’t of much use if end-customers aren’t familiar with the accreditation brand and its market importance. In other words, if end-customers aren’t demanding an accreditation from their solutions providers the entire accreditation exercise could be pointless.
But that’s where CompTIA may have an advantage in the market. The association has a strong end-user following, since many corporate IT professionals have earned CompTIA’s various certifications (A+, Network+, etc.). Now, CompTIA is taking a natural step into security accreditation. On the Security Trustmark front, the latest companies to earn the accreditation are listed here.
According to CompTIA:
To attain the CompTIA Security Trustmark companies are independently audited by IT security experts to assess their security policies, capabilities, practices, and processes in areas such as business continuity planning; access management; incident management; personnel security; security awareness and training; data protection; technical infrastructure; partner management; physical and environmental security; compliance; and service delivery.
The VAR Guy hasn’t personally earned the Security Trustmark accreditation so he really can’t give it a thumbs up or thumbs down. But lining up a dozen new VARs to earn the accreditation shows progress.
