Sponsored Videos: MyLife, a social media site and people search engine, had 17 million monthly unique visitors in Q4 2010 — which represents 95 percent-plus growth from Q4 2009. So how is MyLife scaling its web site and its business? The answer comes from Cloud Creek Systems, a solutions provider that bet its business on the Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) Specialized partner program.

Thod Nguyen, VP of Technology at MyLife, says MyLife is adding about 2.4 million U.S. members per month. In order to scale the site, Nguyen says MyLife leverages J2EE open source technology, Oracle Coherence for data management and caching services, and Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) for underlying data storage.

Nguyen describes the architecture in this FastChat Video:

In order to build and optimize the system, MyLife partnered up with Cloud Creek Systems, an Oracle-centric solutions provider. As part of Oracle’s internal sales team recommended Cloud Creek to MyLife. “They’ve done a fabulous job for us,” says Nguyen. With an assist from Cloud Creek, the company improved database uptime close to 20 percent. Also, Cloud Creek has offered database tuning to speed MyLife page loads. And in recent weeks, MyLife has been working with Cloud Creek on an Oracle RAC 11G R2 rollout.

Marching Toward Specialization

Cloud Creek represents a bigger trend within the Oracle partner base. Over the past year or so, scores of solutions providers have increased their focus on specific Oracle technology areas — from Sun servers and storage, to Oracle databases, applications and middleware.

In the FastChat video below, Oracle Group VP John Gray describes how and why Oracle partners are starting to specialize:

Next Moves

Looking ahead, Cloud Creek plans to pursue several more OPN specializations. And MyLife will continue to depend on Cloud Creek for continued scalability expertise. We’ll be monitoring their progress.
