Carbonite Revamps Online Backup Reseller Program

Carbonite Inc., a provider of online backup solutions for small and medium businesses, announced Thursday that it has revamped its reseller program.

Resellers can now offer Carbonites complete line of home and business solutions, including Home, HomePlus and HomePremier for home or home office users, and Business and BusinessPremier for small business users. All solutions include client access to backed-up content anytime, anywhere.

New account-management tools provide flexibility to help resellers easily manage their customer relationships. Key features include the ability to search  for client accounts and view account details, purchase history, storage utilization and contact information; the ability to add storage and renew subscriptions for customers; the ability to upgrade customers to a higher plan; and weekly email status alerts that notify the reseller of client accounts that need attention.

In addition, resellers have access to an online portal as well as dedicated account-management team and a dedicated senior Carbonite customer support team.

We see that value-added resellers (VARs) who target small businesses and consumers are currently an underserved market most online backup services today are either too complicated or expensive for these resellers,” said Peter Lamson, senior vice president, small business and channels, Carbonite. In contrast, he said, the new Carbonite Reseller Program offers an easy-to-manage platform and low-cost pricing structure.

“With other backup systems, you practically have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what’s being backed up, and if you ever needed to retrieve files, forget about it,” said VAR Cliff Bodenweiser, president of The PC DOCtectives. “Our clients appreciate that they can easily see what is being protected with Carbonite and knowing that they can actually get it back, and at the end of a disastrous day, so do we.”

Benjamin Brewster, owner of Corvallis Technical, an IT management firm for small businesses, said, Carbonite has become a great profit maker for us. Customers like the continuity they get with continuous backup, and it means that we can provide more continuous, regular service.”

As Carbonite provides a continuous backup tool, Corvallis Technical has been able to sign up more customers for monthly services, rather than one-time technology implementations, Brewster noted.

Carbonite’s online backup solution runs on both the Windows and Mac platforms. The company has backed up nearly 200 billion files, restored more than 7 billion files and currently backs up more than 300 million files each day.
