Apple iPads: Ingram Distribution Agreement Gains Momentum

The distribution giant Ingram Micro has noticed an increasing trend in the demand for the iPad, and with that, there are reports that Apple is letting Ingram sell the iPad directly to businesses instead of distributing it to retailers. Surely, Ingram CEO Greg Spierkel (pictured) must be pleased. Here’s the update.

Reuters gets the tip of the hat for speaking to Spierkel. He said Apple is opening up and allowing Ingram to sell the iPad direct to businesses (with an assist from VARSs and MSPs, perhaps?). According to Reuters, Spierkel said:

“What it’s telling us is that there’s a (business to business) opportunity starting to develop for these devices, which is not necessarily where they were targeted initially,”

That’s plainly obvious, and the real story here is that Apple — on top of working with Unisys for governmental and business sales and support — has actively decided to start targeting their devices outside the consumer marketplace.

Spierkel also went on record noting that sales representatives enjoy the iPad as they work in the field.

We’d love to hear from any of our readers on how they’re applying their iPad to the business world, if they have one. Feel free to reach out to me via e-mail (david [at] NineLivesMediaInc [dot] com), as this blogger would love to see and hear real feedback about tablets in the business world, since often opinions are overshadowed by consumers.
