Snowstorm: Resellers Should Dig Out With PSA and RMM

It’s snowing here on Long Island. The VAR Guy’s neighborhood is expecting up to 18 inches of the white stuff. If the forecasts are correct and some roads become impassable, thousands of resellers and VARs on the East Coast won’t get to work on January 12. Alas, performing on-site customer maintenance won’t be possible. At times like this The VAR Guy wonders why traditional resellers and VARs don’t embrace RMM and PSA software that thousands of MSPs take for granted. Here’s why.

No doubt, the vast majority if MSPs (managed services providers) leverage remote monitoring and management (RMM) and professional services automation (PSA) software. Together, RMM and PSA are somewhat like the Microsoft Word and Excel of the MSP industry. The software is everywhere, empowering MSPs to proactively manage customer endpoints, trouble tickets, business finances and more.

But here’s the problem: Sometimes, pundits think PSA and RMM software was only designed for MSPs that have recurring revenue models. On the contrary, traditional resellers can certainly benefit from PSA and RMM, as The VAR Guy has pointed out previously. As the snow piles high, MSPs will still proactively remotely manage customer networks and rapidly sort through customer tickets.Resellers could do the same — if only they had embraced RMM and PSA software in time.

Heck, even reactive services can benefit from remote management.

Which tools should resellers leverage? Heck, that’s for each reseller to decide on his or her own. In the meantime, our resident blogger is piling the wood high upon the fire and watching the snow pile up outside.
