Electronic Medical Records: Dell and Practice Fusion Partner

Dell and Practice Fusion have teamed up on an EMR (electronic medical records) strategy. The effort strives to make EMR packages for doctors more affordable and more easily adopted. The Practice Fusion EMR software will be bundled with Dell’s desktops, laptops and other peripherals (e.g. scanners, printers.) But will VARs cash in? Here’s the scoop…

The Practice FusionDell partnership apparently will get Practice Fusion’s software into the field faster since Dell plans to provide completely pre-configured package with their EMR technologies. Practice Fusion’s solution is designed for small to mid-sized medical practices. It’s also free and web based.

Doctors can get their hands on the hardware by going directly to Practice Fusion to order the prefabbed hardware/software combo, or calling a Dell specialist. Conspicuously absent? Partners or VARs from either company, though one would imagine they’d be available to sell this solution as well. Small practices doesn’t seem like something Dell would be going after directly, though conversely, Dell may expect more doctors and practices to individually look at Dell for solutions.

The package includes phone support from Dell and Practice Fusion, along with EMR training, e-prescribing, lab connections, plus a personal health portal for the doctor’s patients.
