Distribution Watch: Avnet, Westcon, Synnex
Greetings, and welcome to the latest episode of Distribution Watch, our weekly collection of doings in the distribution space. This week we’ve got news from Avnet (NYSE: AVT), Westcon and Synnex (NYSE: SNX), so don’t touch that remote!
Avnet: The Phoenix-based distributor announced it is acquiring the Magirus Group, a leading pan-European distributor of data center solutions and services. Magirus is a leading value-add distributor of software, systems and related services encompassing virtualization, storage management, cloud computing, security, intelligent networks and information lifecycle management services.
Magirus operates in 11 markets throughout Europe and the Middle East, and has 400 business and technical professionals helping its more than 4,500 resellers, system integrators and IT service provider customers. Its services include demand generation, presales, consultancy, training, certification, implementation and support.
The transaction, which is subject to normal regulatory approvals, is expected to close in October 2012. Once the transaction is complete, Magirus will be integrated into Avnet Technology Solutions’ EMEA business.
Westcon: Also on the acquisition trail is Westcon, which has acquired the Afina Group through the acquisition of GLS Software and its subsidiaries. The deal will immediately expand Westcon’s presence in the Latin American, Iberian, and North African marketplaces.
Headquartered in Madrid and Miami and founded in 1990, Afina conducts business across Latin America, the Caribbean, Iberia, France and Morocco. Its vendor portfolio includes VMware, Citrix, Riverbed and Symantec, and it offers specialized services to support its resellers, including post-sale support, value-added augmentation and training.
Synnex: Happy days for Synnex, as the distributor recently reported FY12 Q2 earnings, marking its 100th consecutive profitable quarter, or 25 years of consecutive profitability. To commemorate the accomplishment, Synnex executives rang the New York Stock Exchange Opening Bell June 26.
The distributor also signed a distribution agreement with Adobe Systems, under the Adobe Partner Connection Program, to offer the full portfolio of Adobe’s digital media, digital imaging and pro video solutions through both Synnex and its consumer electronics division, New Age Electronics.
And that’s the end of this week’s Distribution Watch. Tune in next week for another exciting episode. And next time, try not to fall asleep in front of your screen.
