Distribution Roundup: Synnex, Ingram Micro, Westcon, Avnet

Sometimes distribution companies are sleepy, but given enough time, these giants awake and spew forth news like Vesuvius. This time, Synnex, Ingram Micro, Westcon Group and Avnet all have some significant news, with a focus on cloud, partner programs and even an acquisition. Here’s the roundup …

The VAR Guy gives you the most important details about:

  • Synnex: Focusing on what Synnex calls the “Cloud Economy,” the distributor is launching CONVERGESolv Enterprise Utility Data Center, which is designed to be a set of “holistic” cloud-ready solutions Synnex partners can leverage to deploying data center infrastructure for their customers. Synnex promises partners can access “the full portfolio of HP enterprise servers, storage, networking, software and technology services,” with this new program. Partners who want to get on board with this IaaS program will have to complete a three-day training program.

  • Ingram Micro: Ingram had two announcements coinciding with VMware and HP’s events in Las Vegas. First, Ingram announced it is now an authorized “global VMware Service Provide Program aggregator,” or VSPP for short. VSPPs get access to VMware’s pay-as-you-go licensing program and enjoy an enhanced relationship with VMware overall. Second, Ingram Micro now is offering HP partners the new iQuote tool, designed to help partners compare, build and price out HP solutions. iQuote is an extension of HP’s “Micro” store, which partners can access here.

  • Westcon Group: The network and storage-focused distribution company has acquired PT Netpoleon, a distribution company with reach in Indonesia. Westcon Group sees the acquisition as part of its ongoing goal to put its stamp on the ASEAN market. But PT Netpoleon also aligns closely with Westcon Group’s wares, and Westcon expects a boost to its networking, security and UC prowess. PT Netpoleon will become PT Westcon Group upon completion of the acquisition.

  • Avnet: Avnet has been honored by HP, earning the coveted “Partner in Excellence Award” for “demonstrating the highest year-over-year growth.” Avnet also was recognized for its vertical efforts with SolutionsPath.

Check back in next Friday for the latest rumbles in the distribution jungle.
