Cisco and BMC Launch Strategic Cloud Alliance
Cisco Systems has partnered with BMC Software to develop a new “advanced” cloud computing delivery platform for large-scale cloud infrastructures. What exactly does this mean and what impact might it have on cloud computing in general? Here’s the update:
Cisco and BMC are working together to align and provide “development roadmaps” for their respective technologies. The integration is an effort to provide a complete solution suite that can simplify delivering a cloud service. Dubbed the “Integrated Cloud Delivery Platform,” the solution will comprise technologies from both companies and ostensibly will enable easier deployment of cloud services for large service providers or large private cloud owners, as well as provide end-to-end cloud services and coverage of storage, data center and application implementation inside said cloud.
Additional features will include automated and optimized “one-click” new cloud offerings and a “self-service” cloud management portal that will enable service providers to provision cloud services quickly to meet customer needs.
Cisco and BMC also are teaming to provide joint marketing, sales, services, testing and certification. The companies are looking to fast-track the technology while also building larger global relationships with carriers and service providers.

Deeper, More Cloudy
It’s worth noting that Cisco and BMC’s alliance for “roadmaps” and “blueprints” is just one of many partnerships going forward as companies stake their claims in the Wild West of the cloud. Recently, companies have come together to collaborate on virtualization, and let’s not forget Red Hat’s recent acquisition of Makara. VARs and partners should be on the lookout for all these partnerships and decide which ones play to their key strengths.
