Authorization management specialist BeyondTrust has acquired vulnerability management solution provider eEye Digital Security and its plan to offer a context-driven security and compliance solution using eEye technology. BeyondTrust will integrate its PowerBroker family of products with eEye’s Retina CS Vulnerability Management and Analytics solutions. Here’s what’s in it for channel partners.

Founded in 1998, eEye offers enterprise software, appliances and services to help organizations protect their assets from threats and include mobile, virtual and cloud-based solutions.  The Department of Defense has selected eEye for eight consecutive years to protect the critical networks of the armed services.

Meanwhile, BeyondTrust’s PowerBroker family spans virtualization, server, desktop and mobile platforms, as well as a free version, Identity Services Open Edition, an open source product that leverages Microsoft Active Directory for security policy across Linux, Unix, and Mac OS X desktops and servers.

eEye’s Retina CS platform enables IT security professionals to centrally manage IT security from a single, Web-based console. Organizations can also integrate private and public cloud assets running on Amazon EC2, VMware vCenter, GoGrid or RackSpace into the overall security strategy.

With customer information, intellectual property, and patient data coming under frequent attack by hackers, who often target machines with elevated privileges and access to sensitive data, organizations are waking up to need for more complete security monitoring tools.

However, a recent Gartner report titled ‘Information Security is Becoming a Big Data Analytics Problem’ suggests monitoring is not enough. The big data generated by security monitoring should be used to improve risk-based information security decision making, the report said. It looks like BeyondTrust came to the same conclusion.
