Symantec is expanding its cloud security lineup, including the integration of recently acquired Luminate Security, as well as several improvements designed to protect cloud workloads and applications across the enterprise.

Highlights include CloudSOC Mirror Gateway, which uses Symantec web isolation capabilities to deliver cloud access security broker (CASB) controls for unmanaged devices, covering all modern SaaS applications. Additionally, software-defined perimeter technology from Luminate is incorporated into the portfolio, providing a layer of protection for corporate applications that are deployed in an IaaS environment.

The new solutions are part of Symantec’s Integrated Cyber Defense Platform.

Gerry Grealish, Symantec’s head of marketing for network security, tells us these new capabilities allow his company’s partners to solve new requirements for their customers, or in some cases introduce better approaches to existing challenges.

“For example, Secure Access Cloud enables greater security for corporate applications,” he said. “Zero Trust Access enabled by Secure Access Cloud does not require an agent and is integrated with multiple multifactor authentication (MFA) solutions including Symantec VIP.  Because it supports access private cloud, hosted cloud and on-prem applications, customers can seamlessly migrate applications to the cloud without impacting their user experience.”

Symantec and partners are in a “unique position” to offer broad coverage for all modern workflows, including email, web, private and public apps, all delivered from the cloud with its inherent benefits, including simplicity, cost, scalability and centralized management, Grealish said.

“Chief information officers and CISOs want the peace of mind that all workflows are protected and that teams and their tools are working together for maximum effectiveness,” he said. “They also want the assurance that they are protected from threats with best-in-breed security from a company consistently rated as a leader by industry analysts. Our leadership comes not only from the length of the time we’ve spent at the top, but more so from innovations that continually advance security technology.”

An increasing amount of traffic is going to the web and cloud, and getting there from all types of locations and devices, including branch locations, airports, third-party vendors, BYOD and IoT, Grealish said. Each type of access is a potential vulnerability and “people in charge of corporate IT and security need new capabilities to help address security and compliance across all workflows,” he said.

“They also want solutions to work together efficiently and with integrations that reduce operational complexity,” he said. “And while the cloud produces many of their challenges, cloud-adoption for security solutions is also the answer for removing complexity, reducing infrastructure cost, and seamlessly adding scale and scope to their existing capabilities.”

“Traditional network perimeters are dissolving as cloud technologies change the way we work,” said Art Gilliland, Symantec‘s executive vice president and general manager of enterprise products. “Symantec understands the need for a zero-trust approach, which reduces emphasis on perimeter-based security and focuses on providing the right secure access to employees regardless of location or device.”
