Ninja Pushes Cost-Effective Option for MSP Automation

The firm’s remote monitoring and management platform and network monitoring system offer MSPs a SaaS-delivered way to automate important tasks.

Remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools have become nearly indispensable for managed service providers (MSPs) looking to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

But adopting a new RMM has traditionally meant losing your technicians for days or weeks of training.

That was one of the primary pain points that Ninja MSP was looking to solve when they developed the NinjaRMM and accompanying network monitoring system (NMS).

Instead of a week or more of training, an MSP technician can learn everything they need to start using Ninja’s cloud-based, SaaS RMM tool during an hour-long onboarding session, said the company’s product manager, Andy Zhu.

“We wanted to make an RMM that is really easy to use,” he said. “Everything in the UI is clickable and intuitive.”

Ninja’s RMM has been on the market since last summer. The NMS was released in January.

Together, the solutions provide MSPs with a cost-effective, scalable option for automating essential tasks for multiple customers from a single pane of glass.

The product was designed from the start as a cloud offering and began with a survey of 300 MSPs to assess what the market was looking for in RMM technology.

Chief among the considerations was ease of use, with nearly half of respondents (45 percent) describing that feature as “extremely important.” Next was price, followed closely by customization.

Many RMM tools were designed for on-premises then tweaked for cloud computing, Zhu explained.

“It’s more of a conversion,” he said. “We started in the cloud. (As a result), our software is faster, more efficient and more scalable.”

Increasingly, RMM buyers are looking for network monitoring functionality, Zhu said.

More businesses, for instance, are using VoIP solutions for telephone service.

“If your internet bandwidth is being consumed by something else, your voice quality goes down,” Zhu explained.

Instead of merely monitoring servers and endpoints, MSPs seeking to automate or upgrade existing automation tools now want to know how much bandwidth is being used and how applications are performing.

Ninja’s NMS addresses growing demand for monitoring of switches, routers and firewalls.

“We have a lot of customers who are on LabTech as a desktop and endpoint solution, but use Ninja for the network monitoring,” Zhu said.
