EMC Expands Cloud Portfolio to Accelerate IT as a Service

Just one day after acquiring Pivotal Labs, the big data service provider, EMC Corp. has expanded its cloud services portfolio by adding three new solutions to help the company’s IT customers deliver IT as a Service (ITaaS) more quickly to their business end-users.

The three new additions to EMC’s cloud portfolio are as follows: Cloud Infrastructure Services, Cloud Optimized Applications and End-User Computing. Here’s the breakdown for each of the three services, courtesy of EMC.

Cloud Infrastructure Services: New services to help clients define the right architectural design for their cloud strategy: hybrid, public, and private, and enable clients to accelerate the adoption and benefits of cloud technology solutions, including converged infrastructure.

Cloud Optimized Applications: New services to help customers accomplish their Application Rationalization and Modernization objectives and enable customers to accelerate the virtualization of mission-critical applications. The new services also enable Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Application Replatforming, and Application Infrastructure Optimization.

End-User Computing: New services to help customers accelerate the move to Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) using technologies like VMware View and the incorporation of mobile platforms.

According to the company, its three new cloud solutions are designed to help EMC business customers maximize their cloud environments both in terms of efficiency and agility. They even help EMC customers maximize the potential of their EMC Atmos environments for cloud storage in Windows and Linux Clouds.

But in the end, the big winners here are EMC’s Velocity partners. They will have three new cloud services to add to their business customer offerings. And EMC says its new cloud services will help these partners gain a greater competitive advantage and give them the opportunity to make more money through selling cloud solutions.
