Will 2012 Bring Major Changes to Apple’s Product Line?
As time marches inexorably forward to 2012, the rumors around new technology have begun heating up, and there are no rumors more juicy than those coming from Apple rumor mill. The latest from industry site Digitimes says Apple has big plans for the next coming year. Read on for the details …
Digitimes reported that “sources in the upstream supply chain” are whispering about new parts that allude to a complete overhaul in Apple’s product pipeline, specifically, the MacBook Air, iPad, iMac and iPhone.
Sources put an iMac and iPhone overhaul toward the end of 2012, but rumors about a new MacBook Air line, specifically a new 15-inch model, are not new, and this rumor seems to serve as a mini-confirmation. What will Apple do with the iMac? My guess is Apple plans to add a touch-screen panel, especially since we’ve seen patents for it already. The iPhone is anyone’s guess, but even if it’s not the sexy leaked design of the fabled iPhone 5, it’s sure to be something completely different from the iPhone 4S.
And the iPad? Rumors have long persisted that Apple would implant a retina display into the 10-inch tablet, but how long until Apple would do that remains to be seen. According to Digitimes, a source revealed there are two iPad prototypes under production, but whether either one has a retina display could not be confirmed.
With Steve Jobs apparently laying out four years’ worth of technology before his passing, I have no doubt that 2012 will be the year of Apple and Steve Jobs, even without him at the helm.
