Sophos MDM Adds Microsoft Windows Phone 8 Support
IT security vendor Sophos is rolling out a new version of its mobile device management (MDM) platform, Sophos Mobile Control, which adds support for Microsoft (MSFT) Windows Phone 8 and improves reporting capabilities for managed services providers (MSPs) and bring-your-own-device (BYOD) administrators.
Sophos Mobile Control 3.5 adds Windows Phone 8 support to the platform’s existing support for Apple (AAPL) iOS, and Google (GOOG) Android. The platform also now enables self-enrollment and self-service capabilities for users, and assists MSPs with managing device lifecycle as well as device loss and theft.
The company said its software as a service (SaaS) version of Sophos Mobile Control 3.5 delivers improved integration into corporate IT with a new remote Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) Proxy. This enables organizations to block non-compliant devices from receiving email, and provides remote LDAP support that allows users to connect to Active Directory.
Sophos Vice President of Product Management John Shaw said in a prepared statement that protecting smartphones and tablets is a critical piece of any modern IT security strategy, particularly since they’re being used more than PCs.
“Most mobile device management products were designed for large enterprise security specialists and are impractical for over-stretched IT professionals serving small and medium sized organizations,” he said. “Our customers recognize that simple security is better security, be it mobile, endpoint or network.”
Sophos also updated the Mobile Control menu, dashboard and made other additions to improve workflow
This week’s launch builds on Sophos’ June launch of Complete MSP Security, a partner program for managed services providers (MSPs) that want to protect customer networks, endpoints, and mobile devices.
